Why I Work at Penrod – Chris

Chris Nielsen // Engagement Manager

I’ve had the pleasure of working at Penrod HQ for a year and a half. I started as a Project Manager, eventually transferring to Platform and I now work on the Client Engagement Team.

The excitement, culture and opportunity I’ve experienced have been the most important reasons why I work at Penrod.

Excitement

Penrod is a fairly young and rapidly growing startup. In previous lives, I’ve been associated with companies that have been around for 100+ years. These “titans of industry” are extremely set in their ways and their growth is stagnant.

There is nothing more exciting than new offices opening, new people getting hired and and a place where no one is unhappy to come to work. To be a part of Penrod’s growth is extremely exciting and is a night and day difference. To be able to meet new people that share the same interests, passion for work and be along for a journey like this is a rare thing to experience and creates a culture like no other.

The fact that Penrod believes in their employees, wants them to succeed, and is willing to put their employees first is an endearing quality that can’t be found just anywhere.

Culture

The pillar of Penrod’s success is culture. We genuinely value our employees and want them to be happy! Something as simple as working in jeans, or throwing a happy hour to show appreciation for a job well done is immensely different than anything I had experienced before.

Being able to come to work and have a conversation with a coworker that doesn’t revolve around how much they hate their job or their boss is extremely refreshing. Attending events together in which people are allowed to be themselves is groundbreaking. Everyone is accepted, valued as an individual, and allowed to choose their own path.

Opportunity

Opportunity is something that is always pitched during an interview or review but doesn’t always happen. I distinctly remember having a conversation with Penrod’s founders, Joe and Chris, after a few months of working at Penrod. They asked me where I saw myself going in the company. I responded with a generic answer of, “ideally I’d like to go platform eventually…” and their shocking response was, “Great! When can you transition?” Something like this doesn’t happen!

I’ve since became a Platform Lead and now have transitioned to the Client Engagement team, while earning 7 Salesforce certifications. I have always been encouraged to do what makes me happy and in turn, have been rewarded for the work that I’ve put in.

The fact that Penrod believes in their employees, wants them to succeed, and is willing to put their employees first is an endearing quality that can’t be found just anywhere. There is obviously hard work and commitment that goes into being allowed flexibility, but not being pigeon-holed due to being good at your current role is a rare thing.

Like every job, you have good days and bad. Even on bad days, though, I wouldn’t trade my Penrod experience for the world. That is why I work at Penrod.
