Today I’m going to be demonstrating for you a scenario in which the Field Service Lightning (FSL) Mobile App can be leveraged to support real-time sensor data coming from IOT-connected devices. This demo will leverage the new FSL Mobile Extension Toolkit which is currently in pilot.
I’ve been called onsite to repair a device that is faulty. As I login to the app and view my service appointment for today, I see that there is an option in the actions for “real-time asset data.” When I select it, I can activate the ability to stream in sensor data in real time. You can see that this extension has two graphs indicating device temperature and electrical current. Each graph indicates thresholds for safe operation. The temperature sensor is reporting values out of range, and I need to take action.
I begin looking at the device’s location to see why it is reporting high temperatures. I see it is operating too close to a source of heat. Moving the device away from the heat source should fix the problem.
The functionality shown here could be applied in time-sensitive scenarios to quickly detect and diagnose issues with devices that require constant temperature maintenance. Some medical devices, such as those used in blood and vaccine storage, require that they be consistently monitored to ensure they are operating at proper temperatures, ensuring that minimal damage occurs to the supply chain. Here, the quick fix is bringing rapid resolution to the issue.
This extension allows for the FSL mobile app to be used as an IOT reporting device. The app itself is telling me about the issues occurring with an asset, and it’s giving me an idea how I can fix it. As I review the data on the graph, I can see that the issue has been resolved and that the temperature has returned to a normal range. I can now check-out of my service appointment and move on to my next job.
