Courtney Denzer // Project Manager
Penrod’s Milwaukee office has been my work home since April 25th, 2016. It is only my second job out of college which makes me feel so blessed every time I stop to think about how I stumbled into such a wonderful company so early in my work life. I started as a Product Owner with Penrod, but over the past year and a half, that role evolved into a Project Manager position. At Penrod I’ve found a place where I can truly fit in, a place where i’ve been able to able to work directly with the leadership of the company, and above all I’ve been able to work with some of the most driven, kind, and caring people I know.
A Place I Fit In
In previous jobs, I had trouble feeling like I fit in. While I had an easy enough time making friends, I never felt truly cared about by the company. It’s one thing to be told you are cared for, but actions have to reflect worlds.
In my frustrations, I started looking for something new; something that I could be excited about. I wanted to find a job that, when I woke up in the morning, I could smile and think, “wow, I’m excited to see my coworkers.” I applied to Penrod after talking to my friend who worked there. He had a lot of great things to say about the company so I thought, “why not.”
Five minutes into my interview, I was convinced Penrod was the place for me.
I interviewed that day with the individual who would later become my boss. He was so personable and genuinely excited to talk to me and get to know me. I didn’t feel grilled with tough questions. I felt like I was talking to a friend. I soon learned, that’s just how Penrod is.
When my current project began, Chris (COO of Penrod) told me “my door is always open to you” and he meant it. He has time for everyone in the company and continues to put forth an effort to make time even during his most busy days. Joe (CEO of Penrod) can also often be found walking around talking to everyone not about business but about their days or their interests. The owners of Penrod make time for us which says so much about them as people and as owners of our company.
“The support in this office can’t be rivaled. We celebrate each other’s victories every day and we help each other when we make mistakes.”
– Courtney Denzer
Culture is the number one aspect of Penrod that everyone always talks about and it is the reason I stay. I find myself in awe everyday as I watch us support each other and help each other in so many different ways. We care about each other as people which shows in the hard work we put forward.
I see people everyday asking each other, “is there anything I can help you with?” That might be a Project Manager asking their project team if they can help clarify anything to make it easier to build, or a leader asking their team member if they can help them study for their next Salesforce exam, or maybe just someone noticing someone else is having a rough day and needs to go for a walk. The support in this office can’t be rivaled. We celebrate each other’s victories every day and we help each other when we make mistakes.
When I applied to Penrod, I wanted a job that made me excited to wake up in the morning and see my coworkers. As it happened, I found something different. When I wake up each morning I think, “wow, I’m so excited to see my family today.”
That is why I work at Penrod.
