May is National Bike Month and today in particular is National Bike to Work Day! We are celebrating by featuring two members of the Penrod family that commute daily by bike and highlighting the benefits with an engaging infographic.

Would you consider yourself a bike enthusiast?
Yeah, probably – I have three bikes, and spend a lot of time spare time riding them, working on them, and thinking about replacing them.
What benefits do you see of riding your bike to work vs. driving or riding the bus?
For me, it’s better in basically every way. The fact that I can bike to work means I don’t have to own a car, which saves a ton of money and means I have exercise built in to my daily routine. Plus I find the bus stressful and slow – I’m much more on my own schedule when I bike in (though I do take the bus when the weather’s really bad).

What made you get into biking?
I’ve enjoyed biking since I was a little kid. My first job was at a bike shop when I was 15 years old. Then when I got older, I used it as a way to get back into shape.
How many miles do your ride per day?
Depending on the season, anywhere between 10-30 miles average a day. What do you enjoy most about your daily commute? For me, its a great way to wake up in the morning. Instead of just sitting behind the wheel of my car half asleep in the morning, I get to wake up with a little exercise on the way to work. On a beautiful day, nothing beats biking outside.
Now get outside and celebrate National Bike Month by taking a nice long bicycle ride!
