What drew you to work for Penrod?

Hearing about the honesty and positivity in the culture was a huge appeal for me, there’s absolutely no ego and everyone has each other’s back. Even while reading the pillars I was getting amped up – and I didn’t even work here yet!

Favorite place to grab coffee/an after dinner drink?

I’m a coffee-fiend; Blackeye Roasting in the Minneapolis skyway knows me by name. Aside from regular black, I’m all about their nitro-cold press! After-dinner drinks, there’s too many breweries in the Twin Cities so you can’t go wrong. I enjoy the cocktail program at Parlour bar too! I love checking out new places for both coffee or drinks.

Who would you most like to meet and why?

Freddie Mercury. My entire family and I are huge Queen fans. To see my Dad go full-on fanboy would be ridiculous. My brother and I play guitars/bass and my Dad drums like a maniac… so we’d inevitably have an epic jam session!

Cooking, traveling and getting my ass kicked in pickup basketball.

Alicante, Spain. I studied abroad here for a summer and would move here in a heartbeat if I could convince my family to come with me.

I’ve known about Penrod for sometime now and I’ve always heard good things, but honestly, it was the whole experience interviewing. I met with really intelligent, motivated, and super fun people and I knew I wanted to join a team/company with like minded individuals.

The people, the culture, and I don’t think a day has gone by yet that I haven’t been laughing the majority of the day. Just a great team.

I have the honor of being the first person to go through Penrod’s Salesforce training program, so I’m excited to give feedback and help future trainees create a better team overall. I’m also really psyched to flex more of my technical skills and dive into working with Salesforce.

There are a lot of bright people at Penrod that I’m interested in learning from. I love the laid-back atmosphere and everyone has a ton of great ideas.

What is your favorite Holiday tradition?

Black Friday shopping. I’m a major shopaholic and those deals are just too good to resist!

I’m a sucker for any kind of nachos. Also trying to kick my current Ben & Jerry’s addiction.

The Louvre museum in Paris. The architecture is amazing, and you could spend days going through each exhibit and still feel like you haven’t seen everything.

Put yourself in uncomfortable situations where you are forced to learn something. Find something new to learn each week, month, or year and broaden your skill set.

I’m most excited to experience a new work culture. College has taught me that internships are supposed to be about wearing suits and getting locked in a cubicle doing only one task, but not Penrod. I’m excited to get involved in all aspects of accounting and finance at Penrod – in my shorts and sandals.

What’s your favorite dinner spot?

Halal Guys. The guys at the Oakland location know my order. I go there way too much. Maybe I should open a rewards card? I would definitely have a free gyro platter by now.

What’s your favorite place in the world?

The Baguio, Philippines. As a Filipino, Baguio holds a special place in my heart because that’s where my family is from. It’s a dense mountain city where temperature range is in the cool 50 to 60’s range, unlike the rest of the Philippines where the norm is scolding hot temperatures.

Coconut water. Penrod has a fully stocked drink fridge with plenty of variety. I think I’m the only one who drinks the coconut water, though.

What made you choose Penrod?

I choose Penrod because I saw it as a chance for growth. I was starting to hit a wall in terms of what I could learn and surrounding myself with some very bright people and new technologies was just what I needed to take my development skills to the next level.

What are you most excited for at Penrod?

The people. I tend to get along with just about everyone, and I have yet to meet someone who I wouldn’t enjoy sitting down and having a beer or cocktail with.

What’s something interesting about yourself?

I have a pretty ridiculous tolerance for spicy foods. I’ve survived the worlds hottest ramen, a ghost wing eating competition, and the “One Chip Challenge”.

What made you choose Penrod?

I chose Penrod because of the culture and the sense of teamwork employees embody. It isn’t common that an organization values their employees to the degree Penrod does and i am excited to be part of it.

What are you most excited for at Penrod?

Continuous improvement and ongoing development of both myself and the teams i work with. Maintaining a life-long-learner mindset and striving to implement Kaizen wherever possible are principles that Penrod seems to understand well.

What do you like the most about your job so far?

The people. Absolutely outstanding people and the sense of community is extremely strong.

I retain an original research masters degree in the field of Sociology where i spent a lot of time working within an ideology called Symbolic Interactionism. As an extension of that, I have a personal goal of getting my PhD before i’m 50 and retiring as a community college professor.

Coming from an Irish family, St. Patrick’s day is a big one. We generally attend the parade in downtown St. Paul, MN and spend time with friends, but also enjoy traveling to other cities across the U.S. to experience their festivities. The best part for me is that everyone is Irish for a day!

Cheese curds from Ellsworth Creamery. If they squeak when you bite into them you know they’re fresh!

The Boundary Waters, Minnesota. Otherwise, being home with my wife and son.

Who would you most like to meet and why?

Ernest King – he was the mastermind behind the United States’ naval and marine forces strategy in the Pacific theater of World War Two, and everything I’ve read about him makes him out to be an asshole genius. I think he would have been awesome to hang out with.

What’s your favorite travel experience and why?

I’m spoiled in that my grandparents live in Hawaii, and I spent a couple summers with them when I was younger. As an adult I usually go there for a week or two in early spring. It’s my favorite experience because it’s paradise, and I do maintain some level of consistency with each trip (always visiting Pearl Harbor, Haleiwa, the Pali Lookout) as well as checking out new things, and most importantly, ample time on the beach and in the ocean.

Now that it’s nearly summer, my favorite place to grab a drink is Las Fuentes in Lincoln Park – pitchers of margaritas with a big group on their huge patio for hours.

I was looking for a challenge and knew I wanted to stay in the marketing space. I wanted to work with clients and have the ability to work on varying projects while improving my Salesforce and Pardot knowledge. Penrod seemed like a great culture fit for what I was looking for!

In addition to my day job, I’m also a figure skating coach. I’ve been skating since I was 8 years old and have never stopped.

I’m a sucker for Italian, so anywhere that serves pasta is great by me. In Minneapolis, a few of my favorites are Prima, Italian Eatery, and Bar La Grassa.

I travelled to Dallas from the UK for a long distance ‘date’ 3 years ago and that was the beginning of my USA adventure. I now have a husband, a wonderful group of new friends and a fantastic new work family that have made that initial trip truly life changing.

What’s something surprising about you?

I spent the first three years out of college working as an indoor skydiving instructor, teaching customers, training instructors, and helping to manage the site. The most interesting part was my participation in rolling out the wind tunnel experience aboard cruise ships. I traveled throughout the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, Western Europe, and Asia training the cruise staff and making sure the installation was enjoyable as well as safe. I was able to see a lot of really interesting things I never would have been able to otherwise.

What have you worked on recently that you’re really proud of?

I was really proud of myself recently wrapping up a project for a new hobby of mine. I, without any plan or expertise, bought a Honda Motorcycle from 1980 and recently got it up and running again. Six months ago I had never worked on anything with an engine, let alone tried to get one running that was almost 40 years old. I was really satisfied that I did not let a lack of experience intimidate me and just how far some enthusiasm can take you.

I have ran 4 marathons (Madison, Minneapolis, somewhere in South Dakota, and Bermuda). The Bermuda Triangle Challenge was the most exciting which included the following races: Friday: 1 mile, Saturday: 10k, Sunday: marathon. I ran it with my mother and college BFF.

Lime La Croix. Gotta stay hydrated.

What’s your favorite dinner spot?

I love La Merenda. It’s such a romantic setting with delicious shareable plates and crafty cocktails. I’ve gone there for every birthday and anniversary, plus many more.

Favorite Holiday Tradition?

Board Game night on Christmas Eve. The family gets together with a ton of snacks, apps, and drinks and we play board games til we pass out.

Buffalo wings. I’ve successfully completed the BDubs challenge twice. Pre-gaming with Pepto-Bismol is key.

Can I say Thailand even though I have never been? lol. I love Thai food and can’t wait to visit.

I have double-jointed elbows. I also taught English in the Sahara Desert in a refugee camp for a semester!

Each year, my family goes on a horse-drawn sleigh ride at Christmas. We usually rent a few sleighs for our very large family, and we barhop on them through the snowy Northwoods!
